Donald Glover Atlanta TV show trailer from The People Vs. OJ Finale - Childish Gambino (1 of 3)

The first teaser for Atlanta aired in April 2016 during the finale of FX's The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

The clip features Earn, Alfred and Darius watching the episode as it aired on television, breaking the fourth wall. In the clip, Darius is wondering why the series ended with the O.J’s acquittal. Earn tells him that the series is based on a true story, to which Darius replies, "Is that why cops are mad? 'Cause I’d be mad as hell."

Reverse TV spots[]

FX aired a series of promotional spots, featuring the main characters, during the summer leading up to the premiere. Filmed on location in Atlanta, the spots convey the show's surrealist atmosphere by playing the footage of the main actors forward while the world around them plays in the reversed. The footage then starts playing correctly inside the "Atlanta" text.

The song "New Person, Same Old Mistakes" by Tame Impala is the soundtrack for each TV spot.

Walk[]

"Walk" was released in June 2016. In the clip, Earn, Alfred, and Darius saunter and dance through East Atlanta. The trio passes the former locale of Earthshaking Music near Stokeswood Avenue, while the rest of the world moves backward behind them.

The clip ends with the September premiere date reveal.

Flyers[]

"Flyer" debuted during Game 3 of the 2016 NBA Finals. In the spot, Earn walks down a street to "New Person, Same Old Mistakes," wordlessly passing out flyers while people and vehicles around him appear to move backward.

The spot was directed by Paul Tolton and Stephanie Gibbons, and produced by Melissa Ciampa through the Firefly Creative production company.[1]

Porch[]

"Porch" is the final reverse TV spot. In the spot, Earn comes out of a house and meets Alfred and Darius on the porch. After exchanging handshakes, the trio head out the front gate.

The spot was directed by Paul Tolton and Stephanie Gibbons, and produced by Melissa Ciampa through the Firefly Creative production company.[2]
